Urgent News related to Detroit PD & Response to Alarm Dispatches
BFAAM has just been informed of some urgent news regarding dispatch requests on alarms. Detroit has changed gears and enacted a Verified Alarm Response procedure effective today, Monday, August 15, 2011. This has come completely out of nowhere and with no warning to us. The actual changes are described in full detail of the new procedures are available by clicking here. Here is what we have learned so far:
- It is not an ordinance. It is a procedural change similar to what we achieved in November with Enhanced Call Verifcation.
- This eliminates Enhanced Call Verification – it is the direct replacement for it.
- It takes effect this Today. Please note that we have received ‘unofficial’ comment that this may be moved back one week to August 22, 2011.
- BFAAM had no prior notice of this initiative and it appears the Police have intentionally left BFAAM and the Security Industry out of the entire process.
- BFAAM has been requested to share this news with the industry as the ‘official’ notification process to the industry. No indication as to how the citizens of Detroit will be ‘officially’ notified of this change.
- The city is putting this out as a Press Release on Monday (today).
- This notice went out Friday after close of business. BFAAM has been working on it all weekend to provide you with the most comprehensive notice and resolution possible.
Action plan / comments:
BFAAM will take every measure possible to improve the situation created in Detroit by the implementation of this new procedure
BFAAM is already working with our national affiliates at SIAC, ESA and CSAA. A press release will go out today in response to this initiative outlining the industry position. BFAAM stands in opposition to the specifics of this procedure, the lack of participation in its crafting and the failure of DPD to provide adequate notice to the Security Industry and citizens of Detroit.
Calls to the Mayor’s Office, Chief of Police and medial outlets have already begun. We will keep you posted as this develops.
